ENCORE: Eugene Onegin RussianFollowing her acclaimed 2024 company debut in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, soprano Asmik Grigorian returns to the Met as Tatiana, the lovestruck young heroine in this ardent operatic adaptation of Pushkin, which will be transmitted live from the Metropolitan Opera stage to cinemas worldwide on May 2. Baritone Igor Golovatenko is the urbane Onegin, who realizes his affection for her all too late. The Met’s evocative production, directed by Tony Award–winner Deborah Warner, “offers a beautifully detailed reading of … Tchaikovsky’s lyrical romance” (The Telegraph). We are going to combine the Walkie Talkie and Picnic at the Beach next week. The combined event will be held on Thursday May 21st at Air Park in Courtenay, meeting at the picnic tables by the Comox Valley Rhododendron Garden. The rhodos are in full bloom right now.
If you want to go for a walk around AirPark before lunch, plan on arriving by 11am. We will then meet at 11:30 for a picnic. Bring your own lunch or if you prefer, you can buy something at D's Cafe. Also, please bring a folding chair in case the tables are full.
